The Panthers are one of the teams the 10th-place Sabres are chasing, and Buffalo will look to make a move up the standings Thursday night when the two playoff hopefuls face off at HSBC Arena.
The Sabres (33-27-7) are four points back of eighth-place Florida, but only six behind fifth-place Montreal in a tightly bunched East race.
If Buffalo plans on making the playoffs for the third time in four seasons, though, it'll need to play better than it has in its last two games. The Sabres lost 6-3 at Ottawa on Saturday, then followed that with a 5-2 loss at Philadelphia on Tuesday in a game that was tied at 1 entering the third period."
